About the Cornwall Community Hospital Cyber Attack Incident
It started on April 11, 20234, when Cornwall Community Hospital shared news about the network issues their systems were experiencing.
Later on April 13, 20235, Cornwall Community Hospital investigated the issue and found out that a cyber incident happened on April 11, and due to this some systems were experiencing network outages.
User access to the CCH Mychart Patient Portal was also impacted. CCH shared a statement…
“At this time, we can confirm that our clinical Electronic Health Record has not been impacted.”
Cornwall Community Hospital – Newsroom
Cornwall Community Hospital again stated on April 15, 20236, that they have informed its regional stakeholders, including law enforcement and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
The CCH technical team and external cyber experts are working to resolve the issue.
On May 11, 20237, CCH again shared a new update that…
CCH has largely now returned to its standard approach to patient care, with clinical activity volumes (emergency, inpatient, surgical, etc.) back to accustomed levels. While there have been delays with respect to patient access to some services (particularly with respect to Diagnostic Imaging, such as X-rays, CT-scans, MRIs, etc.), we generally expect improvement in access to these services within the next week.

Out of an abundance of caution, we want to make our community aware that many of CCH’s files and records became corrupted, including some containing patient records, and several systems were left inoperable.

CCH further said…
However, please be assured that CCH continues to closely monitor the situation and has not detected any malicious use of data. More importantly, CCH’s Electronic Health Record System was not impacted.
