Albany Medical Center has partnered with ‘EPIC’ an Electronic Health Record provider and recently launched Mychart EPIC’s flagship product. The old patient portal MyAlbanyMed (powered by FollowMyHealth) has been deactivated after this new portal launch.
Albany Medical Center is a part of the Albany Med Health System and the first organization to transition to Epic’s Mychart. Albany Medical Center has already provided the necessary training to its staff who will use the Mychart portal to manage patient care1.
During the training, Director of Quality Management Megan Keenan shared EPIC’s Mychart importance and information about the training Albany Medical Center employees and medical professionals are getting. Megan Keenan said…
Epic is really a powerhouse tool that will bring us to the next level as a System.
Megan Keenan, Albany Medical Center
She further said…
“Being in training, I realized that everything we need will be easily accessible in one place. As we transition to Epic, the patient safety indicators, the quality metrics, all of these reports will be available to use in real time that we can then use to enlighten not only our teams at Albany Medical Center, but all of our practices across the System.

When did Albany Medical Center launch EPIC’s Mychart?
Albany Medical Center launched the new electronic medical record (EMR) on March 2, 2024, to provide better care and faster delivery of services to patients.
System President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis P. McKenna, MD shared his views about this launch2. He said…
An electronic medical record is the neural network of a hospital and having a single, unified platform that spans across the Albany Med Health System will connect our services like never before and bring the quality of care we deliver to the next level.
System President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis P. McKenna, MD.
He further adds…
Epic is a robust tool that will offer patients a more seamless care experience and enable our clinical teams to better collaborate, share information, and deliver the most informed care possible.
System President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis P. McKenna, MD.
Why did Albany Medical Center choose Epic EMR?
The main idea was to implement a single platform for all the hospitals within the Albany Med Health System3. Albany Medical Center’s transition to the Epic EMR is the first step towards unifying all hospitals. The second phase of the Albany Med Health System’s Epic launch occurs in September, when Columbia Memorial Health, Glens Falls Hospital, and Saratoga Hospital will join the Epic platform.
After the launch, Albany Medical Center Hospital, its practices, and EmUrgentCare locations can use inpatient and outpatient services, scheduling, registration, and billing the new EMR platform offers.
After the full implementation, all Albany Med Health System organizations below will use a single EPIC EMR and patients will use a single Mychart portal.
- Albany Medical Center
- Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital
- Columbia Memorial Health
- Glens Falls Hospital
- Saratoga Hospital
